The Straight Apple of Laird Brandy Jack. A County Fyfe Scotsman named William Laird left Scotland in 1698 and made his home in Monmouth County, New Jersey. He used his expertise to work with apples, the most plentiful natural resource in this part of the New World, and is thought to be a distiller by trade. A popular "cyder spirit" in expanding America was applejack. Known by most as "Johnny Appleseed," American preacher John Chapman preached to congregations in the Ohio River Valley in the 1820s and gave away apple seeds to his supporters. He also gave them instructions on how to produce Applejack, which explains why it is still so well-liked in this area. Put a wedge of lime on top.
